I shared a little of this family on my Facebook page last week, but in honor of October being Childhood Cancer Awareness month, I wanted to share a little more about the beautiful Olivia. When I first heard from Olivia’s mom, she informed me that Olivia was an almost 3 year cancer survivor and that they were in need of updated family pictures. I was absolutely honored to be able to capture this amazingly strong family!
Olivia’s mom shared a little of her story with me to share with you:
When Olivia was 19 months old she was diagnosed with Leukemia. The onset of her disease was sudden and shocking. In the weeks following, we would learn that her variety of this most common form of childhood cancer was extremely aggressive. The cancer was not responding to treatment in the way that her doctors had hoped it would and the odds began to slip out of her favor. We were told that she would require a bone marrow transplant to have any hope of survival. Those were dark and terrifying days. Soon though, we would learn that a bone marrow match had been found and that this anonymous donor was able and willing to donate his time and his stem cells to save our little girl. We were filled with so much hope. Five days after her second birthday, Olivia received the gift of life. Now, almost three years later, she is still in remission and is living a very full and happy life. She will turn five in December and started pre-k this year. We are thankful beyond measure for each and every day with our precious daughter and to the young man (our hero) who helped to save her life.Thank you for helping us to document this special time in our lives with beautiful images. We will cherish them always.
